The University of Miami Fieldhouse is a two full-court basketball practice facility and student flex space. The University of Miami was in need of having a practice area for their team as well as a multi-purpose meeting space, which we have called, the Fieldhouse. This Fieldhouse was intended to be the campus’ first USGBC LEED Certified building with the goal of achieving LEED Silver energy certification. The next priority for the University was for the project to receive all approvals from the City of Coral Gables and submit for building permits in a sixty day timeframe. The City approvals and permitting process were graciously met ahead of schedule. Understanding that time was of the essence on this project, the building was designed to be built with tilt-up construction methods to save months of time in the construction phase. Not only did the Fieldhouse become the University of Miami’s first USGBC LEED Certified building on campus, it surpassed the goal of achieving LEED Silver and achieved LEED Gold Certification. The Fieldhouse is in constant flux by being used for basketball practice with two full-courts or four half-courts and the meeting space being used for graduation pre-function activities, job fairs, debates, and large school gatherings.
