The Architect/Developer for this project has just completed a vacation home on an adjacent lot (Casa 34-58’N, 83-20’W, winner of 2015 and 2016 AIA Unbuilt Design Awards), atop Ridgepole Mountain in Sky Valley, Georgia and decided to purchase three additional lots for development opportunities.
Sky Valley is the northernmost and highest elevation city in Georgia, located at the southernmost edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was incorporated into a city in 1978 and enjoys a beautiful natural setting in a valley framed by mountains that feature what is referred to as the best golf course in Northeast Georgia, bordering North Carolina.
The city is composed of scattered vacation and second home structures built mostly in the seventies and eighties that have resulted in numerous “tired” houses that are mostly in need of update and/or repairs, where little development has occurred in the last 20 years or so.
The proposed Tres Casas Development proposes a vocabulary of fresh, “modern mountain” architecture as a response to the revived interest in this part of NE Georgia, easily reached from Atlanta in a smooth 1-1/2-hour drive.
Conceptually, the development consists of three distinct, unique and different looking homes, made up of repetitive plan components (bedroom suites, Great Rooms, carports, storage, etc.), assembled in three different compositions, creating volumetric expressions that vary from 2 to 3 levels, above and below grade in their siting. All three designs incorporate 3 bedroom 3-1/2 bath feature while some have additional office lofts and family room spaces additionally. All of the designs take advantage of the stunning mountain top views to the west, southwest, with spectacular sunset vistas.
Tres Casas vary in area between 2,000 sft. to 3,200 sft. of A/C space, in addition to automobile, storage areas and large generous decks that reinforce exterior spaces and views. All three designs make historical reference to the “red barn” of the southern mountains as part of the visual composition of each structure.
Tres Casas is a development that will gently sit on the sloping sites along the top of Ridgepole Mountain, as a new and fresh contributor to the existing fabric of Sky Valley, Georgia.
