Faith Church of the Redlands needed the design of a multi-purpose building that could serve not only the needs of worship, but also serve as a cafeteria, classrooms, gymnasium or concert facility. As the congregation represents a mosaic of the community around Homestead and the Redlands, the image and materiality of the multi-purpose building pays homage to its farmland context and history. The composition of the building recall the imagery of “greenhouses”, industrial vocabularies and utilitarian structures all related to an agricultural typology. The use of exposed concrete, concrete block, corrugated metal siding and translucent panels etc. reinforce the roots of this congregation in this community.
