The design objective was to create a place for a young family, which would result in a calm and organized environment that focuses on family life.  Casa Ye Little Wood was also meant to serve as a place for entertaining and a welcoming space for friends and family members from around the world who are frequent guests. The large 17,000 s. ft. site allowed for the one-story solution to be organized around a series of courtyards and other outdoor spaces, permitting an integrated dialogue between the indoor and the outdoor of the house. Volumes are manipulated to visually help organize the house by public and private functions, with public spaces, both indoor and outdoor, expressed as double-story volumes and private spaces designed in a lower single-story scale.  The massing composition becomes unambiguous at the intersection of the double-story and single-story volumes over the family room area.  All, while a majestic 75-year-old oak tree accentuates and informs the design solution, engaging the new structure as if it had always been welcomed as a part of this place. In Casa Ye Little Wood, the dichotomy of openness and privacy are beautifully sculpted and weaved into a perfect balance between indoor and outdoor spaces, old and new, natural and man made … the hallmark and beauty of living in South Florida.
