The UCF Student Welcome Center’s sculptural theme arises as an inter-play of artificial and natural light drawn upon its physical elements, particularly by those to either side of the colonnade. The types of materials, shading devices and their proximity to one another were selected to enrich the exposed southern view to varying natural light conditions throughout the day and year. This enables the Multi-Purpose Theater to be a singular sculptural element defining the buildings’ signature status through a timeless varying of light sources. Its arrangement allows the Multi-Purpose Theater and Lobby to be used after hours for special events, dinners, fundraising activities, etc. without compromising security for the administrative functions of the other parts of the building.
